New York Mets look more like a disaster than a championship team

BVW understands that the Big Apple is a different market. As the late George Steinbrenner used to dominate the New York tabloid back pages back in the ’70s, he wants to make New York a National League town again.

It is a neverending challenge. As an analogy, while Yankees captain Derek Jeter ended his career with a game-winning walk-off single, Mets captain David Wright fouled out.
That is the culture Van Wagenen wants to change. I applaud this. How long can the Mets (and Wilpons) do the same things over and over again while expecting different results?
It’s human nature to resist change. No one wants to be left in a dark tunnel, looking at a light that can either be the exit or a train heading towards you. But change must happen. Hopefully, the Mets can stay competitive with these additions at both the Major League and AAA levels, but it is going to take time.
Positive signs of this change are Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, Dominic Smith. But are they enough to get the Mets over the hump this year and fulfill BVW’s proclamation? Or will this be another disaster similar to the M. Donald Grant 1977 Midnight Massacre trades of Tom Seaver and Dave Kingman?
We hope not but have some Rolaids on hand because we may not be able to stomach what lies ahead.
