Brooklyn Nets: D’Angelo Russell staying is inevitable
‘The Guy’
In the NBA, it’s rare that the vocal leader on the floor and in the locker room is a 24-year-old kid, but that shows the level of maturity that Russell has. After being an outcast in Los Angeles, the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft definitely took some time to mature his game and the basic toolset to be a leader on any team.
Coming to a place like Brooklyn was a perfect opportunity for him to get a fresh start and have a lot less pressure than playing in a historic arena where 11 jerseys and 16 titles are hanging from the rafters. Brooklyn has always been looking for ‘The Guy’. They’ve finally found it in Russell and are welcoming him with open arms.
All-Time Great
Not many people realize this, but Russell is truly in a class of his own. Only a few have been welcomed with such a warm embrace from a fan base and taken full advantage of the opportunity as Russell has. During his short stint in Brooklyn, the ball-handling wizard has been nothing short of amazing and going anywhere else just doesn’t make sense for him and his career.
All of this Hall of Fame talk may be very premature, but barring serious injury, Russell has a special career ahead of him. After this past season, he’s officially laid the foundation to make the Brooklyn Nets a playoff contender for years to come. He loves this city, they love him and his re-signing is inevitable. By the time his career comes to a close and all is said and done, D’Angelo Russell is going to be a household name in Brooklyn forever.
