Sell : Constant magic from ‘utility’ players

For the sell part of this article, there are probably so many better options to choose. For starters, a running gag amongst Mets fans is for the Wilpon’s to literally sell the team. I could also talk about selling Mickey Callaway and his failure to work with good starters and his constant reliance on his shaky bullpen. But, both of those things are par for the course and at this point is beating a dead horse.

What I can tell you is that players like Adeiny Hechavarria, Aaron Altherr, Rajai Davis, and Carlos Gomez all have at least one home run for the Mets this season. I would definitely sell the amount of production the Mets have gotten from these guys, who the Mets basically got off ths streets, this season.

I am fully aware baseball is a long season and many things happen and it takes a deep team to even think about winning a World Series, but if you take out qualifiers, it’s Rajai Davis who leads the team in slugging and Dominic Smith in OPS.

The Mets are going to need to get into a groove and have their normal, intended group of players padding stats and logging starts again, if they plan on doing anything. I would say with maybe Robinson Cano out, Hechavarria should stay and keep adding to his RBI total, which he is currently 10th on the team in. Other than that, I would sell on a guy like Carlos Gomez really being a thing.

While none of these players have been glaring liabilities, Hechavarria has even been above average. The Mets’ box scores are going to start looking a lot more normal when the regulars get healthy, as we enter the dog days of summer.

Just because they are the New York Mets, I am sure in 50 games from now, when there are only about 50 games left in the season, there will be plenty of new, different things to buy sell or hold. Entering the last 100 games or so, these are the things I would be looking at the most.

But seriously, Jason Vargas might actually be good, marvel in that, Mets fans. I never thought that could be a thing, but here we are.
