New York Knicks: A realistic look at the 2019-20 starting lineup
Power Forward: Noah Vonleh
What even is the power forward position anymore? It’s really turned into the gray area position as both small forwards and centers can play there depending on their styles. For the Knicks, the power forward market is a tough one.
The only great players available are Julius Randle, Paul Millsap, and Marcus Morris. I don’t see any of those players going anywhere which means that New York is going to move forward with Noah Vonleh. Some may not be happy with that move, but it may not be a bad thing.
The 23-year-old is coming off the best season of his young career with the Knicks averaging 8.4 points and 7.8 rebounds. In his 68 games played, Vonleh started 57 of them and increased his playing time by six-minutes per night. It seems that he is making the most of his added minutes.
The 6-9 forward is a versatile option for the Knicks with an arsenal of weapons at his disposal. He’s showcased that he’s quick off the dribble and can move on the fastbreak while proving that he can bang bodies with the best of them down low in the post. If all else fails, Vonleh can stretch it out to the three-point line and shoot the three at a 33 percent clip.
Like Barnes, Vonleh feels like he’s been around for a while. Maybe it’s because of the multiple teams he’s been on, but it definitely doesn’t feel like he’s only been in the league for five years. He still has room to grow, but he’s going to be a solid asset to this Knicks team as his minutes load starts to increase.
