Following his latest hot streak, Gary Sanchez is starting to show New York Yankees fans why he’s worth the occasional headache.

New York Yankees fans (including myself) tend to give Gary Sanchez a tough time for multiple reasons. His lack of hustle, inconsistent bat,  awful defense, and his injury history (which is possibly due to his weight).

At one point during an awful attempt at running to first base in Tampa Bay, hecklers were all over social media petitioning to chase Sanchez out of town. All of these were big problems going into this season and it made some fans question whether or not he was worth what the Yankees have invested in him.

Last season was riddled with inconsistencies at the plate. As a result, Sanchez’s batting average fell to .186. That was 92 points below his 2017 mark of .278. For a guy that had so much hype as a great hitter when he arrived in the major leagues, it was definitely a discouraging sign that he wasn’t hitting the baseball.

Opposing pitchers started to figure out his plate tendencies. There were some points last year where the 2017 All-Star looked like he was swinging a garden hose, that was afraid of leather at the plate. With a full offseason to recover from injury and make the right adjustments to his game, The Sanchise has been able to show the fans that his bat still has a lot of pop in it.

On top of that, his defense and ability to call a game through nine innings has drastically improved. Through various work that he’s put in during this past offseason, it’s clear to see that he’s dedicated to showing Yankees fans how bad he wants to be a part of the boys in pinstripes.
