With the 17th overall pick, the Nets have a chance to take a player with one of the highest ceilings in the draft, Romeo Langford.

Before the season started, if you told anyone Romeo Langford would slip out of the top-10, let alone the lottery entirely, you would’ve been called crazy. Langford was the fifth-ranked recruit in the Class of 2018 and everyone expected big things out of him with the Hoosiers.

Langford wasn’t bad at Indiana, but he also didn’t quite live up to his lofty expectations. In his lone season at Assembly Hall, Langford averaged 16.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

Once again, not the best stats, but still not bad by any stretch of the imagination. However, Langford was still selected to the 2018-19 All-Big Ten and 2018-19 Big Ten All-Freshman teams.

With this in mind, it’s not hard to imagine that Langford will have some sort of success in the NBA. He was a player that most thought would go in the top five once the draft rolled around, but many are overlooking him simply because of who will be taken with the first three picks.

Langford is a 6-6, 215-pound shooting guard who would fit in well with D’Angelo Russell,  should the Nets go with the lengthy guard. The tandem would make for an outstanding backcourt duo.

Langford’s size is unusual for a guard and he uses it to his full advantage. If Brooklyn takes him, they could get away with playing him as a forward/guard, rather than in their three forward set that they went with for the majority of the 2018-19 season.

Langford is at his best when he drives to the hoop, rather than pulling up for a three or jump shot. He shot a mere 27.2% from beyond the three-point arc this past season and had an overall field goal percentage of 44.8%.

This would be the perfect pick for the Nets should he be available when the 17th pick rolls around.
