New Jersey Devils: Should NJD draft Kakko instead of Hughes?
By Mike Marrano
Don’t overthink it
Kakko is an intimidating factor on the ice at 6-2 and 190-pounds. He is a pure goal scorer, putting up 22 goals with 38 points in 48 games during his first full season with TPS of the Finnish Elite League. There is no doubt he will make an impact on whatever NHL team he ends up. With his stats against NHL players, he proves to at least turn some heads.

At the end of the day, New Jersey cannot second guess themselves, although it is very tempting to change course and select Kappo. His style of play is very attractive and he has been scoring very flashy goals for someone who is only a prospect.
The New Jersey Devils have had Jack Hughes on their radar for a long time. They may already have a plan about what they want to do long term with the Orlando, Florida. Kakko has broken out as of late and there is no question he is going to be successful, so it’s only natural for General Manager Ray Shero to have second thoughts.
Jack Hughes’ all-around game is a better fit for the Devils. Assuming Kakko goes to the New York Rangers, he will be a great fit for them as well, adding to the young core the Rangers are currently developing.
