Sixth Man of the Year – Allonzo Trier

One of the lone bright spots for the New York Knicks was the emergence of undrafted rookie Allonzo Trier. The University of Arizona product played 64 games this season and came off the bench for 61 of them, where he averaged 10.9 points and 3.1 rebounds in 22.8 minutes per game.

Trier wasn’t even expected to make the team when he signed with the Knicks. However, his ability to put the ball in the hoop and create his own shot made him useful to the Knicks rebuild. Trier is listed at 6-5 and 200 put, but it was clear to see that he had an obvious size disadvantage night in and night out.

That size disadvantage did not deter him from performing at a high level. In fact, he was able to convert his two-way contract to a 2-year deal just two months into the season. At times he outplayed many of the veterans on the team and provided a much-needed spark off the bench.

His herky-jerky handles and quick decision-making proved valuable to a young team. Without their lone all-star all season, Kristaps Porzingis, Trier was one of the few players on the team who could create his own offense.

Trier had some exciting games throughout the season, just check out his performance against the Pelicans where he dropped 25 points to see why he is deserving of the Knicks Sixth Man of the Year award.
