New York Yankees: Clint Frazier helps Orioles break ugly MLB Record
By Ed Stein
Clint Frazier of the New York Yankees hit a pair long home run to center field Tuesday night in Baltimore. His second one was the 100th allowed by the O’s in 2019. the fastest any team has reached the century mark in MLB History.
Say what you want about New York Yankees radio voice John Sterling, but I find him both knowledgeable and entertaining. When Clint Frazier took Baltimore pitcher David Hess deep to center in the third inning, I really enjoyed his “Frazier goes down…town” in the style of Howard Cosell. It was Frazier’s second dinger against Hess, however, this time with two out in the fifth that was record-breaking.
Frazier’s fifth-inning blast, once again to dead center, was the 100th home run Baltimore has allowed this season. It was the fastest that any team has yielded 100 round trippers in Major League history.
Granted the O’s are horrible this year, but the Bombers have taken advantage of them, winning eight of ten games played so far. Injuries have decimated the Yankees roster this season, so 12 games against the Orioles in the team’s first 50 games is a blessing from the baseball gods.
The title of this article specifically mentioned Frazier but has been a team effort by the Bronx Bombers that put Baltimore over the top (or fence in this case). Nine different Yankees have hit a total of 28 home runs in the 10 meetings so far.

Red Thunder’s record-breaker was his fifth against the American League East cellar dwellers. Keep in mind, he was in Triple-A for the first three games of the season series. That means he has five homers in seven games against the Orioles.
While that is a great stat, it isn’t close to the best this year. Catcher Gary Sanchez occasional struggles at the plate this season disappear against Baltimore. Seven of his 15 home runs in 2019 have come against the O’s. Keep in mind, he didn’t play in the nightcap of the May 15 doubleheader, so Sanchez has hit seven in nine games.
Even those gaudy numbers by Sanchez doesn’t put him in first place among the team’s Orioles killers. That honor goes to super sophomore Gleyber Torres. The middle infielder has played in all 10 contests against Baltimore, putting eight pitches over the fence. That includes a four-bagger in five of ten games, four of which were multi-homer games. Considering he has 10 total home runs this year, it’s safe to say, he turns the volume to 11 when playing the O’s.
In case you are wondering, what the most single-season team vs team home run record is, I did some research on the subject and it wasn’t easy to find. The 1956 version of the New York Yankees hit 48 long balls against the Kansas City Athletics in 22 games. If the current Bombers stay on their 2.8 HR/game pace against Baltimore, they will hit 53 in 19 games.
To give everyone their fair share of the credit, six other Yankees have home runs against the O’s: Luke Voit and Aaron Judge have two each, while Greg Bird, Troy Tulowitzki, Austin Romine, and Cameron Maybin all have one.
