Mickey Callaway is the New York Mets manager for the foreseeable future says GM Brodie Van Wagenen. Callaway is a symptom of a culture that needs to change.

After Monday’s impromptu press conference, New York Mets General Manager, Brodie Van Wagenen, announced that current manager, Mickey Callaway has the full support of management and ownership.

With internet and media buzzards circling the embattled manager, BVW held a meeting with Callaway, the coaching staff and players earlier in the day. He wanted to reiterate to all involved that the goal is to win both now and in the future.

In accordance with that goal and despite the early-season disappointment, Callaway is the New York Mets manager now and going forward. He has the backing of ownership and the front office. Additionally, Van Wagenen also said Callaway has a hold on the clubhouse.

So social media can calm down because the era of “Kumbaya” Callaway will not be coming to a close anytime soon. Even as the New York Mets continue to collapse like a house of cards in a tornado. The current implosion is very similar to the one from 2018, but with new characters playing a role in this tragic play.

In today’s baseball, owners seek managers that are analytically savvy, able to communicate with owners, players, general manager, the media. Callaway checks all those boxes. Heck, while he’s at it, why not communicate with the grounds crew, the concessions vendor, and write a note to your teacher when you want to cut class?
