New York Yankees: Another starter goes down with an injury
As if the New York Yankees luck couldn’t get any worse, we have yet another injury in the Bronx. Masahiro Tanaka left Saturday’s game after getting the final out of the sixth inning.
In the New York Yankees 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday, starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka took a ground ball right off the shin which ricocheted to first baseman, Luke Voit in the sixth inning. All seemed fine and Tanaka looked to be alright, but as he was walking back to the dugout he let out a scream and appeared to be in pain.
It was later revealed after X-Rays that Tanaka has a contusion in his left shin. What exactly this means for Tanaka is yet to be known but we will likely get more information in the coming hours.
Tanaka was having a gem of an outing, he had only thrown 88 pitches through six scoreless innings, but the injury forced him out of the contest. This is horrible timing for the New York Yankees, they already have two starting pitchers on the injured list, but it now appears they may add another.

The good news, however, is that James Paxton who hit the injured list earlier in the month due to inflammation in his left knee is scheduled to come back at some point in the coming week. Unfortunately, though it appears as if the Yankees will be taking one step forward and two steps back.
In addition to Paxton, projected staff ace Luis Severino is also on the injured list and isn’t expected back until potentially July. The Yankees need all the help they can get when it comes to starting pitchers, but it just isn’t going their way.
The good news is that Domingo German has stepped up and been holding his own as he has an 8-1 record with a 2.50 ERA on the season. German has really stepped up for the New York Yankees when they needed him most and he has likely worked his way onto the rotation when the Yankees are back to full health.
German, CC Sabathia and the rest of the staff, will have to keep it up as the Bombers battle for first place in the American League East, despite all their injuries. The Yankees have been playing phenomenally lately, briefly taking the lead in the AL East and maintaining a top-five record in the league.
Expect more updates to come on Tanaka and all of the Yankees injuries to come in the coming days.
