The Giants picked up a speedy receiver on Day 3 of the draft who can blow past defensive backs downfield.

The Beckham Jr. trade gave the team the number 17 pick overall which resulted in Clemson DT Dexter Lawrence getting his name called and Old Dominion LB Oshane Ximines hearing his name in the third round with the 95th pick.

The team also drafted speedy Auburn receiver, Darius Slayton. It’s clear what the team likes about Slayton, he is extremely fast. Take a look at the video below to see his three first-half touchdowns in the Music City Bowl. At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.39 40-yard dash. In his draft recap press conference, GM Gettleman spoke about Slayton.

"“Darius Slayton is a take-the-top-off-the-coverage guy. He’s a 4.3 guy who plays 4.3, so he’s got big-time speed.”"

In his first action with the team during rookie minicamp, Slayton showed that he is capable of making big plays, but will have to work on securing the ball first and foremost. Coach Shurmur spoke about the rookie after minicamp saying:

"“He had a few drops early, but by the end of it, he made a couple of nice contested catches. That’s why you practice. There’s a lot to get used to — new routes, new plays, new places to line up. That’s why you practice.”"

Slayton should expect to see time on special teams as a returner along with newcomer Jabrill Peppers. The New York Giants have searched for years to find a solid returner, even using Beckham Jr. and Barkley which made fans extremely nervous.
