The New York Jets have built one of the strongest defenses in the NFL this offseason. If the offense does their part, this team will be nearly impossible to beat.

According to Profootballfocus.com, the New York Jets ranked 12th in overall defensive grade for 2018 which was a great sign for a young team. With new additions through free agency and the draft, Gang Green is really looking to bolster their strongest side of the ball and with all things considered, they did a great job.

Safeties

Expected Starters: Jamal Adams, Marcus Maye

Led by Jamal Adams, the first string-secondary looks great but it definitely lacks depth and experience. In only his second season, Adams was able to establish himself as one of the best safeties in the AFC with 115 combined tackles in 2018. He was able to make his first of what fans expect to be many Pro-Bowl appearances and he’ll definitely be the leader on this Jets secondary.

Marcus Maye is one of many on this Jet’s secondary that couldn’t stay on the field last season. Only playing six games due to various thumb and shoulder injuries, Maye was lackluster on the stat column, but basing off of his rookie year in 2017, he still has a lot to prove.

For the 2017 season, Maye had 79 combined tackles and added a pair of interceptions. As a rookie, it was incredibly promising to see Maye have so much potential. He’s going to have plenty of opportunities to continue to grow and keep the secondary afloat when games come down to the wire.
