New York Rangers: Who will drop to #2 Hughes or Kakko?
Finding the right fit
With Taylor Hall on the wing and Nico Hischier a center, it may be Ray Shero’s prerogative to take Kakko with the first overall pick because he can complement that talented line on the wing, instead of Hughes, who is a natural center. Then again, perhaps not.

Personally, I would like Kakko to play on Broadway. I think he could slide in on the top line right away and do wonders next to Mika Zibanejad. But, the size aspect is what really sways me.
Either way, whoever they take should affect who the Rangers will go out and pursue in free agency a week later. They will likely hurl money bags at Artemi Panarin regardless. But, if Hughes falls to No. 2, then the Rangers may not need to look for a legitimate No. 2 center, which could affect the odds of a Kevin Hayes reunion. Carl Hagelin is another name of old that has trickled down the grapevine.
There are a few unrestricted free agent forwards that I think would fit in with this roster but expect Panarin will be priority numero uno and then they will work based off that result. With another couple possible first rounders, a salary cap budget that allows for a spending spree, and likely some trades, it will surely be an entertaining summer. All that is in addition to hiring a new team president to replace Glen Sather.
Let’s hope the Rangers stay on the correct path.
