New York Giants: Three predictions for the 2019 NFL Draft
The Giants Make a Day 2 Trade For Josh Rosen
Recent news has indicated that the Cardinals aren’t certain about drafting Kyler Murray with the first overall pick and are confident with Josh Rosen as their starting quarterback going forward. However, that could easily be a smokescreen considering their offseason activity has hinted otherwise.
Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury has close ties to Murray and made it clear before he was even hired by the Cardinals that the Oklahoma signal-caller would be his choice No. 1 pick if given the opportunity. Also, in a more recent development, the Cardinals actually left Rosen out of their 2019 preseason hype tape.
With all that in mind, it’s likely that trading for Rosen is still on the table. Drafting players at No. 6, No. 17 and No. 37 rather than using at least one of those picks as trade bait could complicate negotiations on Big Blue’s end. However, if New York stays patient, the young signal-caller could end up in the Big Apple by the end of Day 2.
Rosen’s price will likely depreciate with each passing pick after Arizona takes Murray off the board and if no other team is willing to meet its current demands for the second-year quarterback, the franchise might be forced to lower their asking price.
The Giants will have nine picks remaining heading into the third round of the draft, giving them plenty of draft capital to swing a favorable deal for Rosen. If everything falls into place, the G-men should be able to package one or two mid-round picks with their third-rounder (95th overall) to make Rosen Eli’s heir apparent.
