New York Giants: Three predictions for the 2019 NFL Draft
OBJ’s Replacement is Drafted at No. 37 Overall
Trading Odell Beckham Jr. was the biggest mistake that the Giants made this offseason and the whole ordeal will probably go down as one of the worst trades in New York sports history. Yet, what’s done is done. The Giants have moved on from the three-time Pro Bowler and now need to find someone to fill his shoes.
New York signed Golden Tate in the wake of the OBJ trade, but adding a glorified slot receiver to fill the void left by one of the game’s best wideouts isn’t going to cut it. A true No. 1 target for Eli Manning is sorely needed if the Giants hope to be competitive and, luckily, there may be a couple of game-changing receivers available in the early stages of the second round.
D.K. Metcalf, who’s considered the best wide receiver prospect in this year’s draft class, will definitely be off the board by the time the G-Men are on the clock in the second frame, but that doesn’t mean the Giants will be out of luck finding Beckham’s replacement.
There should be several receivers available early in the second round that can start from the get-go and provide an immediate impact on offense. Ohio State’s Parris Campbell was the fastest wide receiver prospect at the combine (4.31 40-yard dash) and would be a dangerous weapon thanks to his game-changing ability to make men miss in the open field.
The ideal prospect, though, would probably be Arizona State’s N’Keal Harry. The 21-year-old is a big physical target (6-2, 228 pounds) with deceptive speed (4.53 40-yard dash) whose style of play would perfect compliment Tate and Sterling Shepard.
