New York Giants: Three predictions for the 2019 NFL Draft
New York Double Dips on Defense in the First Round
There really is no other way to put it. The Giants need a long term plan at quarterback now that Eli Manning has entered the twilight years of his career. Unfortunately, I don’t think that it’s going to happen.
Despite being impressed with what they’ve seen from Dwayne Haskins and the rest of the 2019 quarterback class, Gettleman’s comments regarding Eli and desire to grab a pass rusher at No. 6 leads me to believe that the team has other ideas on how they’re going to attack the first frame of the draft.
That being said, it’s very possible that New York drafts a couple of standout defensive players with their two first-rounders considering the team has a huge need at almost every position on that side of the ball.
It probably won’t be a popular move with the fanbase if it happens to come to fruition, but it could be the right one if the Giants get it right. The 2019 draft class is absolutely loaded with elite defensive talent at almost every position and the G-Men can completely overhaul their stop unit overnight if the draft plays out as many pundits project.
At least four of the five teams picking before the Giants are all projected to take an elite defender off the board early, but blue-chip defensive prospects like Devin White, Montez Sweat, Rashan Gary, and Ed Oliver could still be in play at sixth overall. Several mock drafts significantly deviate from one another after the top 10 picks, but standouts like Clelin Ferrell, Brian Burns, Greedy Williams, and Devin Bush could fall into the New York Giants lap at No. 17.
