Dave Gettleman has his work cut out for him but he must succeed no matter what for the sake of the New York Giants present and future.

With Avengers: Endgame coming out this weekend it is only fitting that New York Giants should take a Marvel feel going forward since the New York Jets are laying siege to the Gotham concept with their new uniforms.

Dave Gettleman has been tasked with creating a roster that hasn’t been able to steadily compete since their last Superbowl appearance. The New York Giants are further away from an NFL championship than most fans would like to admit to themselves.

The New York Giants are in an awkward phase in the rebuild, this is the point of the series in which Nick Fury tells Tony Stark that Iron man is wanted for the Avengers but Stark isn’t recommended. Big Blue knows what they want to do, but also knows that at the current moment it’s not possible.

To clarify this: Yes, we all want to see the Giants take a signal caller in the draft because the fanbase may be tired of Eli Manning or want to see something more exciting, etc. We’re not there yet and honestly, nobody wants to give the keys to the New York Kingdom to just anyone.

I mean Lord have mercy haven’t we been hurt enough with Ben Affleck as Batman. (That’s right D.C. don’t bring that weak mess around here.) All Jokes aside just because you select a quarterback in the first round doesn’t mean he’s a true first-round talent.

If recent memory serves correctly Blaine Gabbert, E.J. Manuel, Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, Josh Freeman, Vince Young. All first round quarterbacks and all flamed out for one reason or another; an that is just naming a few QB of recent memory the overall list is much longer.

Selecting the wrong quarterback is like trying to make Captain America believe it’s okay to classify heroes by their special abilities and their threat level. The fact of the matter is the divide among fans may lead to a Civil War.

The Giants have two first-round picks and all indicate the Giants using them on young players, not trade bait. From what I have heard and have seen from other reporters the Giants intended to use those picks as they currently stand at sixth and 17th respectively.

My personal feeling is that Dave Gettleman will make these picks and then disappear into the Quantum Realm after his post-draft-interviews. He’ll be hiding away until training camp and may even allow his assistant to sign undrafted free agents so he can escape the current reality.

What the New York Giants may do in the first round…

I’m sold that the New York Giants are not just creating a smokescreen, I feel that they genuinely do not like any quarterbacks in the first round and that includes Murray. I also believe that the Giants find value in adding defense talent after Gettleman dropped several Easter eggs about falling a few points short each game after not being able to come up with defensive stops.

New York Giants selections for Thursday

6th pick

Devin White LB LSU: I have not moved from this pick from my original mock draft and I still feel that White gives the New York Giants that hard-nosed soldier they’re looking for. A true Captain America if you will. A kid who is willing to do whatever he can for the better of the team while not worrying about himself.

17th pick

Greedy Williams CB LSU: Giants stay defense here. Greedy Williams playing the part of Hawkeye. After trading away one LSU Alum (Odell) they double down on another outstanding prospect in the 6’3″ lockdown corner. With two picks they increase their defense and allow for their second-year defensive coordinator, James Bettcher to start becoming a bit more exotic with his blitz packages.

27th pick from Raiders

D.K. Metcalf WR Ole Miss: Metcalf is a big body wide receiver and for the sake of this we will call him THOR. Sporting amazing fitness he would become an immediate starter and large target to help groom whoever the future QB will be. For now, however, he will give Eli Manning the big target that he’s been missing since the departure of Burress way back when.

The Giants will look to move back into the first round and by trading with the Raiders they can send them a veteran player (Evan Engram, Wayne Gallman jr., B.J Goodson, or even Janoris Jenkins) and draft pick without having to give up everything in the treasure chest. The reason this trade is important is that Gettleman will be playing the role of Nick Fury next.

When he doesn’t select a QB with any of these three picks, all the fans who were on the fence already will quickly look to attack like Thanos’ army hunting for the last of the infinity stones.

With the snap of the fingers, half of the New York Giants fair weather fans will be gone and Gettleman will be standing there with the ashes of those departed, maybe even watching himself disappear.

However, Gettleman will use the back-end of this draft to add a few more players but most importantly will look to add draft picks for next years draft class. A draft class of quarterbacks who are so wonderful that Saquan Barkley (the current face of the Giants) will be glad Gettleman waited for the right pieces to join the Avengers.

A potential that is so great in next years draft class the Giants may be able to select two quarterbacks in the draft, in the exact same mold that Washington did many moons ago with Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins.

The Giants may be looking to move to the overall spot next year or even 2021 to land one of these QB’s yes it hurts to say but you could be watching Eli Manning play on a couple of one-year contracts if the Giants are not happy with what they can get in the 2020 draft.

2020 Draft Eligible QB’s

  1. Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama
  2. Justin Herbert, Oregon
  3. Jordan Love, Utah State
  4. Jake From, Georgia
  5. Jalen Hurt, Oklahoma
  6. Jacob Eason, Washington
  7. Steven Montez, Colorado
  8. Shea Patterson, Michigan
  9. Ian Book, Notre Dame
  10. K.J. Costello, Stanford

2021 Draft Eligible QB’s also includes any junior that doesn’t declare 2020 from the list above

  1. Trevor Lawrence, Clemson
  2. Justin Fields, Ohio State
  3. Felipe Franks, Florida
  4. Kellen Mond, Texas A&M
  5. Sam Ehlinger, Texas

All of these young quarterbacks already have shown outstanding attributes that would transfer very well to the next level and out of this list four quarterbacks already have a National Championship attached to their resume.

Where in the Endgame now…

More from Empire Writes Back

Does any Giants fan really want to wait for it? Of course not. Unfortunately for the Giants, theirs is 14,000,605 possible outcomes over the next couple years and out of all those alternate outcomes there is only one scenario in which they hold the Lombardi Trophy at the end of multiple seasons going forward.

Dave Gettleman is a man of great resolve and he has proven he’s an old school, tough as nails, going to do it his way or no way style of GM. Gettleman is pressing the button to call Captain Marvel, he knows that he has to do whatever it takes to make this work.

The Giants owe it to all the fans left willing to ride with them through the good and bad, they may not be able to change the past but they can start looking to Avenge all us suffering fans who endear the losing and still sport the Giants Gear.

Dave Gettleman must do whatever it takes, I know he said no more surprises but here’s hoping for one more… Gettleman gets no more freebies after this offseason, the New York Giants need to start seeing the plan he says he has in place and know that it’s leading to something great.

Thursday, April 25th, 2019 starting at 8 pm, The New York Giants are in the endgame now… and they must do whatever it takes because failure isn’t an option.
