Drill, Baby Drill. New York Mets’ Jacob Rhame reliever, threw a high and hard pitch over Hoskins’ head last night. Message sent, was it received?

New York Mets pitcher Jacob Rhame threw a high and hard pitch over Phillies hitter Rhys Hoskins‘ head. The Mets win last night 9-0 and sent a message to the Philadelphia and the rest of the National League East Division that they are no longer going to play nice anymore after several of their players got drilled. In this series alone three Philadelphia pitchers hit Mets batters.

Enough is enough. You get our guys and when the time is right, we get yours. That has been an unspoken agreement amongst players in baseball since the game’s beginning.

However, Mets relief pitcher Jacob Rhame, if you are going to hit a batter, don’t go for the head! Unless you may say that you can blame the weather was fogging up your glasses. Then again, that excuse could not be used because you did it a second time on a 3-2 count.

Dilly Dilly!

Expect all eyes to be focused on tonight’s game at Citi Field. Social media will be buzzing at the idea of a bench-clearing brawl. You wonder if Wrestlemania has moved to Queens. Expect some interesting events to occur. You may see Mickey Callaway and Gabe Kapler grab each other like they are in a hockey game.

I have no issue with what the Mets did. It is part of the game. But I remember what happened to Mike Piazza when he got hit in the head by Roger Clemens. Piazza was taken out of the game with a concussion. That is something I don’t care to see again.

More from New York Mets

Another point to consider is the weather was not as bad as the night before when Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso were hit. The Phillies bullpen can argue the weather was damp and cold the night before, and that contributed to pitches getting away.

Really? The Mets bullpen pitched in the weather and was able to shut down the Phillies lineup from the sixth inning to the ninth to complete the win. Maybe Philadelphia pitching coach, Chris Young, should teach his pitchers that if you intend to hit a batter, at least come up with an alibi.

As for whatever may happen from here on out, don’t blame the Mets. That would be like a kid in school being picked on by a bully. The kid says he had enough and fights the bully and then gets suspended by the principal.

Indeed, going for the head is unacceptable but drilling the opposing team is a statement the Phillies and the rest of the Major Leagues that the Mets will not be drilled without retaliation.
