New York Jets General Manager Mik Maccagnan is in position to make a huge impact for not only his team but others as well in this year’s NFL Draft. What will he do with the third overall pick

The 2019 NFL draft is a day away and NFL fans around the country are giddy with anticipation. Who will be the player that can improve their team’s outlook in the years ahead? An unlikely figure, New York Jets GM Mike Maccagnan, hold the keys to several teams’ draft fortunes.

The New York Jets, selecting third overall, are in an enviable spot in this draft. It’s loaded with difference-making talent in the first round. If all goes as expected, the Cardinals will select Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray first overall. After that the San Francisco 49ers are expected to choose Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa.

Obviously selecting third overall has a great influence, should they keep the pick and do what everyone thinks they will do. If so, the teams immediately following them (Oakland, Tampa Bay, and New York Giants) all have big decisions to make. If NYJ does something completely unexpected, their decision ripples throughout the better part of the first round.

Gang Green, is also very interested in moving down. There are plenty of weak spots on the roster in need of shoring up such as a center, outside linebacker, cornerback, and top end wide receiver. Unfortunately, Maccagnan doesn’t have many top picks to work with. For example, TheJets don’t have a second round pick which was part of the package the Jets sent to Indianapolis when they traded up from sixth to select Sam Darnold third overall last year. A good second round pick this year could plug one of those holes. There are plenty of interior offensive linemen graded for selection at that point in the draft.
