The New York Yankees placed their 13th player on the injured list when Aaron Judge strained his oblique on Sunday. Is fate catching up with the Bombers?

In my last article about the New York Yankees titled Bombers Suffering Now, Will Contend Later, I said, “Aaron Judge better be bubble wrapping himself at all times of the day before and after game time.” Looks like he didn’t take that advice. Judge suffered an oblique strain yesterday in a 9-2 win against the Royals and is officially placed on the 10-day Injured List.

The Struggle Continues

Yankee fans have had much to cheer about in their luxurious history. They’ve won 40 AL Pennants and have won 27 World Championships which are both Major League Baseball records that might not be surpassed anytime soon. However, so far this year, this team has been cursed. They’ve now experienced 13 critical injuries. Just a few days ago we were saying that after 12 injuries, it couldn’t get any worse. Well, now it officially has. The face of the franchise has joined the injury party.

What Next?

The Yankees are 11-10 and are 2nd in the AL East. Not a bad spot to be considering they’ve lost so many key players to injury in those 20 games. It has helped that the best team in the division, the Boston Red Sox, have had a woeful start at 8-13 but that will not last forever. Chris Sale will not be 0-4 with an 8.50 ERA forever. If the New York Yankees were healthy, this would be a great time to cushion their lead ahead of the Red Sox for when they make their run but for now, the Rays are the ones doing that.

Is Their History Catching Up?

For a franchise with so much success as had by the Evil Empire, is this the year where things catch up to them and they become prone to bad luck? Every team has to have a year where injuries ruin a season. Take the Portland Trail Blazers of the NBA for instance. Every time they have a team that can contend, they experience an injury to a key player that makes their season all but over.

This year, that player was Jusuf Nurkic who broke his leg late in the season not long after Charles Barkley predicted the Blazers to go to the Finals. The point being, so many teams have injuries that they cannot come back from.

dark. Next. Has CC done enough to make the Hall?

The Yankees haven’t had a season like that in recent memory so maybe this is the baseball gods catching up to them. We shall see.
