New York Yankees show resilience on Easter Sunday
The New York Yankees currently have the most injuries of any team in the MLB, but you wouldn’t be able to tell with their play as of late.
The New York Yankees have been plagued by injuries since before the season even started. First, it was Didi Gregorius with Tommy John Surgery, then just about every other Yankee fell down thanks to some sort of injury.
If you didn’t watch baseball though, you wouldn’t be able to tell they were injured in the first place. The Yankees have won five of their last six games and are playing some great baseball despite the fact that they are playing without just about every single one of their stars.
Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez, Luis Severino, Miguel Andujar, Didi Gregorius, Greg Bird, Dellin Betances, Troy Tulowitzki, Jacoby Ellsbury, Aaron Hicks, Jordan Montgomery, and Ben Heller are all currently on the injured list.
Even with all 13 of these injuries the Yankees continue to battle and continue to show why they were one of the two popular picks to win the American League East this season.
In a starting lineup that featured seven players who would typically not see the field if the Yankees were fully healthy, the Yankees still managed to win thanks to an Austin Romine walk-off in the 10th inning.
We saw players such as Mike Ford, Thairo Estrada, and Clint Frazier all get playing time on Sunday and it was rather pleasing to see that even in the face of adversity this team still has the ability to grind out games.
However, this lineup won’t last very long as Gary Sanchez and Giancarlo Stanton are due back before April ends, and potentially Aaron Judge as well. This being said, I wouldn’t get too used to seeing players such as Thairo Estrada, Mike Tauchman and Mike Ford in the lineup.
If they play well in the time they are given though, you could see them earn spots on the everyday roster going forward. We are seeing this out of Clint Frazier who has a .351 batting average with five home runs and 14 RBIs with eight runs in only 16 games of action.
With Frazier’s play, you have to imagine that the Yankees will keep him around on the roster even when the team is back to full strength. Who the Yankees would send down, however, then becomes the question.
That is a conversation to have once the New York Yankees are back at full strength. Until then, let’s make the most out of a rough situation as the Yankees hope to continue their hot streak.
