With the third pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select… Our expert panel will tell you.

For our Sunday Roundtable this week, Empire Writes Back decided to poll our contributors as well as some guests from other FanSided sites. We want to know who the New York Jets will select with the third overall pick on Thursday night in Nashville, Tennessee.

This year’s draft is rife with top-end, even elite defensive talent in the front seven. That’s good for Gang Green because they need help on that side of the ball. They lack an impact player among their defensive linemen or linebackers.

In 2018, the New York Jets finished the season with a 4-12 record, including 1-5 against the other teams in the AFC East. Their defensive stats were underwhelming.

  • Total yards allowed per game – 380.4 (23rd)
  • Passing Yards allowed per game – 254.1 (24th)
  • Rushing yards allowed per game – 126.3 (26th)
  • First downs allowed per game – 21.4 (24th)
  • Sacks – 39 (T-16th)
  • Fourth down conversions – 64% (25th)

Those stats are going to change with this pick. Whomever they choose will be a star for many years. Among the possible players, the Jets could select are defensive ends Nick Bosa (Ohio State), Montez Sweat (Mississippi State), defensive tackles Quinnen Williams (Alabama), Ed Oliver (Houston) and linebacker Josh Allen (Kentucky).

Of course, there are varied opinions about who’s name will be on the card handed to commissioner Roger Goodell by the New York Jets. One player has emerged as the favorite, but the voting the other players deserve consideration.
