New York Giants selection with the 17th overall pick – Roundtable
By Ed Stein
Clelin Ferrell

Clelin Ferrell, defensive end, Clemson University. Like the Rashan Gary pick this is a pick simply to help reload the defense as it is currently in shambles. Ferrell is a 6’5” 205lb beast out of Clemson who had 55 total tackles and 11.5 sacks for a total of 20 yards lost.
Adding both Ferrell and Gary to the Giants defense would make up for lost ground from 2018 and the offseason thus far. The reason the Giants don’t go with a quarterback here is that all of the first round quality quarterbacks likely would have been taken already. But look for someone like Will Grier in round two.
Mike Esposito, Empire Writes Back
As much as I’d like to think that the Giants will draft an eventual replacement for Eli Manning at this point in the first round, I have a hard time believing it’ll happen based on the slew of defensive talent in this year’s draft. That’s why I have to go with Clellin Ferrell here.
Despite the projected slide, the Clemson product is one of the most decorated edge rushers in the 2019 draft (2018 First-Team All-American, Ted Hendricks Award winner) and a complete edge-defender who consistently produced against top competition, during his collegiate career (27 sacks, 50.5 tackles for loss). Drafting Ferrell would seamlessly fill the void left by Olivier Vernon and give the Giants another dangerous pass-rusher to pair with Gary for at least the next four years.
