New York Yankees keep taking steps in the right direction. Their grit and determination have come through in the past few games.

The New York Yankees are showing a new toughness and it’s being received well by each and every Yankee fan. The New York Yankees started their week by playing their oldest rival the Boston Red Sox’, and to the delight of each fan in the home stands they made a grand statement.

The First game was an easy route that sparked the bat of the Yankees all night long, add in the blazing heat and God-fearing breaking stuff that Paxton showed in the series opener and the Yankees looked downright nasty.

In the second game of this short series, the Yankees found themselves down late and looking almost sluggish and drawn out. Yet the leadership that was needed came from the same man I thought would be best on a new team at the beginning of the year.

Brett Gardner came through in the clutch with a perfectly timed grand slam and like a pure shot of adrenaline to the arm of this young roster. The Yankees bullpen finally showed they have some teeth and held down the late innings with a masterful pitching performance by the flame-throwing Chapman.

New York Yankees against the Royals

The Yankees came into the first game of the series emotionally drained and it was very apparent that the short series against the Red Sox still meant more than just a regular win the in record column.

The Kansas City Royals took the Yankees to the woodshed Thursday night and made sure to help themselves to sausage sandwich and a pretzel while they were at the stadium. Things looked to be bleak but only for a moment.

More from Empire Writes Back

On Friday Night C.C Sabathia pitched a great game closing in 3,000 strikeouts and giving the Yankees a great competitive start to the game. The Yankee bats rallied behind C.C in his second start of this young season.

The Royals jumped out to a quick 1 nothing lead but the Yankees never let them get settled in responding in the bottom of the same inning with an easy 2 spot. From that point on the Yankees never let the lead go again only allowing the Royals to pull within one.

Luis Cessa put together a good middle inning shutting down the only true Royals threat at a rally in this game and keeping the Yankees Bullpen on track with their success rate. The Yankees finished the game with an easy 6-2 victory and roll into Saturday’s game with a chance to split or win this series.

What to look forward to on this Easter Weekend

The Yankees look to finish this series up against the Royals on a positive note with the series currently sitting split at 1 a piece. The Yankees have to continue to put men in a position to score and bring a constant workman’s ethic into each at-bat.

Probable Pitchers

Saturday

KC: Heath Fillmyer vs NYY: Masahiro Tanaka

Sunday

KC: Jorge Lopez vs NYY: James Paxton

The next two games have the potential to be very good quality pitching matching ups, the winner of Sunday’s game may be the team who can get deeper into the other team’s bullpen on Saturday Afternoon.

But with the Yankees showing the toughness to win in tight games and so many players starting to round into mid-season form, each game becomes more interesting. The Trajectory of the Yankees begins to grow clearer the question is can they keep up the pace.
