New York Knicks: Interview with former VP Jonathan Supranowitz
By Mike Marrano
Looking Back
As a graduate from Brooklyn College, Supranowitz has a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He pursued studying Public Relations when he got internship offers from the New Jersey Nets and job offerings from the Charlotte Hornets. Jonathan Supranowitz’s story shows that you don’t need to know exactly what you want to do once you enter college and don’t need to be afraid to chase after what you want. Supranowitz chased his dream, no matter how hard it was for him. He found out this is what he wanted to do for the rest of his life, so he ran with his opportunity and never looked back.
As Supranowitz was reaching the end to his tenure with the New York Knicks, he expressed some of his work that he was most proud of. Because of his esteemed position, Supranowitz has gained resources, has learned about the team’s history, and has made connections with those who work for or play for the New York Knicks.
Jonathan feels that every person who has worked for the team has value and wanted to make that known. Specifically, Supranowitz and the Knicks front office reached out to a former Knick player who made history within the organization, John Rucker.
Rucker was the first African American to wear a Knicks uniform when he was in the preseason camp with the Knicks in the 1950s. At the time of Supranowitz’s call, John Rucker was retired, living in Florida with his wife. He was brought out to New York and honored in a home game. Rucker went from just another retired man living in Florida to being honored in front of thousands of fans and being greeted by players and coaches at Madison Square Garden. That was when Supranowitz heard something he did not realize he would ever hear, “Jonathan Supranowitz, you saved my life.”
Everyone has different drives when it comes to why they pursue a certain goal, and when Jonathan heard that sentence, he knew why every day, no matter how grueling or how long it was, was worth it.
