Don’t read too much into it, but the New York Jets brought in Noah  Fant, tight end from Iowa, for a pre-draft visit on Friday.

The New York Jets have been preparing for the NFL draft, which begins on April 25. One of the ways teams prepare is to have prospects into their facility for a pre-draft visit. Each team gets 30 visits, excluding those with local prospects.

One of those visits happened this past Friday with a potential weapon for Sam Darnold.

According to Ian Rapoport, (via NFL.com), the Jets played host to Noah Fant, the highly-touted tight end from the University of Iowa, to their Florham Park facility.

It will never be a bad thing to consider additional weapons for Sam Darnold. After all this is a passing league.

The more guys to throw to the better off Sam will be.

And Fant has played an inspired brand of football near the goal line, posting 18 touchdowns over his final two years at Iowa.

Whether you spent a lot of time watching Fant or not, it’s very obvious that those numbers are huge.

On its face it seems like an excellent idea to consider Fant. It wouldn’t be hard to fathom the Jets selecting a tight end to improve the depth chart behind Chris Herndon.

The only question is how much Adam Gase will actually use a second tight end.

Next. History favors Gase. dark

According to Travis Wingfield of Locked on Dolphins on a recent podcast, Gase nearly exclusively went with 11 personnel. For anyone who doesn’t realize, that means one running back, one tight end and three wide receivers.

He also stated that Gase doesn’t switch those players around either. Meaning that Fant, if he were the backup tight end, wouldn’t necessarily see a ton of reps behind Herndon. That might not be the best idea based on the scheme.

The moral of the story is to not read too much into the pre-draft visits. Each team gets 30 so they might as well use them. Furthermore, just because there is a visit doesn’t mean they will be selected.
