New York Jets Draft Profile: Brian Burns, edge, FSU
Going along with our New York Jets draft profiles, we look at another player who could be had later in round one, Brian Burns from Florida State.
The home stretch to the NFL draft is on New York Jets fans. April 25 will be here before we know it. Time to continue with our blitz (no pun intended) of draft previews.
Here comes another guy that may be a target if the Jets trade back. He doesn’t crack the top three, but in the 10-15 range he very well could.
His name is Brian Burns, edge rusher from Florida State.

4.53 in the forty yard dash may not be as fast as Montez Sweat but it’s fast. 129 inches in the broad jump is nothing to sneeze at either.
In three years with the Seminoles, Burns posted 23 sacks. His top year came last year as a junior when he racked up ten sacks and 15.5 TFL’s.
Burns did have a drop off in his production from year one to year two which could be concerning, though as we said he peaked in year number three.
We could do a lot of talking, but isn’t it more fun to watch these guys play? With that said, let’s look at some game footage on Brian Burns:
Just like with Sweat, the speed here is clear. He can blow by a lineman with his sheer speed at a moment’s notice.
Did you see the sack fumble on this tape? The pursuit was great, the speed was fast and the swipe with the arm was something to get excited about.
The troubling part is when you see him get taken one on one fairly easily. Often when he got to the backfield he wasn’t touched, but when he was touched, he didn’t have a lot of answers.
When he ran stuns into the heart of the offensive line he had difficulty getting through as well. He seemed to get lost in the traffic a bit. It makes you think that he might do well against lesser opponents and go silent against tougher ones.
But the talent is there, and I would be willing to take a shot in the middle of the first round.
