New York Jets Draft Profile: Montez Sweat, edge, Mississippi State
Time for a draft profile for the New York Jets. Now we look into a player that they might look at if they trade back, Montez Sweat of Mississippi State.
The draft is getting closer and closer. The buildup is finally going to come to a head, sooner rather than later. The New York Jets are busily preparing, getting ready to make those final decisions starting on April 25.
Can you believe that we are here almost here already?
Time to continue with our draft previews. Over the past couple of weeks, we have looked at the guys they will most likely consider at the third pick, like Nick Bosa and Quinnen Williams. Josh Allen was on our radar as well.

But what about if they move back? If they are able to find a team that gives them a good enough package to move back, then what?
Today we look at one of those players. This is Monte Sweat, edge rusher from Mississippi State.
MEASURABLES
HEIGHT: 6-6
WEIGHT: 260 POUNDS
ARMS: 35 3/4″
HANDS: 10 1/2″
At the Combine, he turned heads with a blazing 4.41 time in the forty yard dash.
The 125 inch performance in the broad jump showed a great deal of explosiveness as well.
After leaving Michigan State, he lived in the offensive backfield while with Mississippi State. 30 TFL’s and 22.5 sacks in two years is quite the stats line. Agreed?
Even if the Jets move out of that number three pick, they will still be looking for a guy off the edge, maybe even two, right? So, let’s go to the video tape:
One thing is for sure, the kid is fast, isn’t he?
He wins a lot with his speed. When he gets to the outside of is opponent , drops that shoulder he is gone. He is in the quarterback’s face in the blink of an eye. He’s a good tackler too. When he gets you in his grasp he doesn’t miss.
My worry is that he wins one on one most of the time. If more than one lineman has Sweat in his sights, he seems to get swallowed up a bit. Combine that with his 260 pound frame and he might have a problem with upper echelon linemen.
I don’t see the Jets interested in Sweat at number three, but if they move back to around number ten, ,give or take? He might just be worth a shot.
