New York Jets Mock Draft: Getting to the passer from the inside
Round Six: Garrett Brumfield, G, LSU
Time to take a chance on an offensive lineman. Ultimately, if the Jets trade out of the number three pick I can see them going there in the first round, but not if they stay there.
By the time round three came around, other linemen I had my eye on like Erik McCoy and Garrett Bradbury were gone. So after hitting other areas, I moved to the offensive line in round six.
After all, could we not see it turning out this way? Would anyone be really surprised if Mike Maccagnan again doesn’t use any draft picks on the offensive line until day three? It’s been his way.
Kelechi Osemele is here to replace James Carpenter at one guard. Brian Winters remains and he may keep the starting job, but a guard like Garrett Brumfield coming in to compete with him will not hurt.
He could even win the job.
According to Jon Ledyard of the Draft Network, Brumfield is athletic and plays with a nasty edge. He is a tough guy in the trenches that NFL coaches will love.
The downside is a lacking of technique. If the Jets do select him, Frank Pollack is as good as they come as a position coach that will help him improve.
He may not be a starter day one but at the very least they could find a solid depth piece in Garrett Brumfield.
