New York Jets Mock Draft: Getting to the passer from the inside
Round Four: Joe Jackson, Edge, Miami
The Jets did address the pass rush right at the top of day one with Quinnen Williams. But only one addition isn’t going to cut it. Adding multiple talented players in this department wouldn’t be a bad idea.
So, they take a shot at Joe Jackson in round number four.
Jackson lived in the other team’s backfield for Miami over three years in school. In three years he posted 129 tackles, 35.5 TFL and 22.5 sacks. He never was dominant, but he easily was a solid player in each season.
Lance Zierlein believes Jackson can find a role in either the 4-3 or the 3-4, which is the type of versatility that the coaching staff will love. Gregg Williams will be wide-eyed for a player that can play in either set.
I am particularly impressed with Jackson’s motor. There was a particular play at around 1:25 into this video that he was blocked. He was out of the play. He keeps fighting and gets to the quarterback for the sack.
We want guys that don’t give up. Who cares if you have been blocked? Play to the whistle, and Jackson does that.
He has enough speed to get around the edge as well. Tackles have a lot of trouble cutting him off from his path to the quarterback.
Joe Jackson has the potential to be not just a good, but an excellent day three choice.
