Round Three, Pick 93: Miles  Sanders, RB, Penn State

Now Mike Maccagnan looks for the guy who will spell Le’Veon Bell when he needs a break. Why? Do you trust Elijah McGuire to back him up? What about Trenton Cannon? Have either of these players proven to you that they can get it done?

Me neither.

Miles Sanders is a guy that can potentially fill that role.

After doing very little over his first two seasons at Penn State, his coming out party came in 2018 as a junior. He ran the ball 220 times for 1,274 yards and nine touchdowns. He added 24 receptions for 139 yards.

At the Combine, Sanders posted a 4.49 forty yard dash and a fast 6.89 in the three cone drill. That forty was less than .1 seconds behind the man he took over for at Penn State, Saquon Barkley.

He’s a guy from this region, so cold weather won’t face him. One red flag is the fact that he never had a big game against opponents like Ohio State, Kentucky or Michigan. His best output was a 13 carry, 51 yard performance against Kentucky this past New Year’s Day.

Performance on the big stage didn’t turn out well for Sanders at school. But with the type of stats he put up, that shouldn’t turn the Jets away from him as a day two prospect. He’s fast, elusive, and can make plays.

The Jets could definitely find a place for a player that can bounce off tacklers like Miles Sanders.
