As you might have realized, the New York Yankees face an enormous amount of injuries already this season. The season is only a week in which is incredible.

The New York Yankees have come up stuck between a rock and a hard place, Brian Cashman found himself looking to be prepared with an extra first baseman, bringing in a stopgap short stop until his Knight could return to save the day and some young pitchers to prep for the injuries/suspensions.

At no point did Cashman think that his team would already be facing an uphill battle and would be looking to add bodies to the team and the 40 man roster. With the soon to be adjustments coming from every angle let’s see what has happened so far…

The New York Yankees have lost several pitchers included Luis Severino, C.C. Sabathia, and Dellin Betances. They currently have 3 fielders that are not starting for the big league club on their bench and that’s after Wednesday’s call up and they’ll need to find some suitable capable bodies without starting any top prospect players clocks prematurely.

What can be done from here?

The Yankees need to look to tighten their belts and be prepared for the long haul, unfortunately a trade out of desperation will always leave you wanting. The New York Yankees have some young talent who may be able to fill in admirably for a short time to get them over the hump.

For pitching coming from their own system, they have Chance Adams and Gio Gonzalez who can be called up if need be. However the starting pitching has been more the adequate to start this season, the first weekend was rough. Yet the young kids who have been given the chance to perform and have stepped up when called upon.

For fielders, the Yankees could very well bring up Matt Lipka for the outfield or Wendell Rijo to play second base while Gleyber Torres goes back to his primary position at shortstop. The Yankees do have a few players that can shift positions and show flexibility.

They Yankees do not have to put themselves in a position of panic and don’t have to force any of their top prospects to join the big team in New York.

Instead the simple approach may be the best approach here in letting the young guys get a handful of at bats at the upper level and then sending them back down as players become healthy and they can continue their prospects development.

Some players on the ten-day I.L list will be on that longer, and some players will be ready to roll as soon as their time is done. The Yankees will be putting bits and pieces together for the next two months as they look to return some major players from injury.

The fortunate part about injuries happening early in the season, is that it is a very long season and all the Yankees need to do is keep pace until they are healthy enough to push through the wall and blow by everyone else in the division. The Boston Red Sox have also started out very cold, however they do remain the Yankees biggest threat.
