Round One – 6th overall pick

Half a dozen mocks predict that the G-Men will select Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins. In second place with five hits is defensive end Rashan Gary from Michigan. Tied for third are Mississippi State defensive end Montez Sweat and Florida tackle Jawaan Taylor.

Almost every mock draft has the G-Men addressing the successor to Eli Manning in this draft one way or another. Depending on whose analysis you read, Haskins is somewhere between the best and third-best quarterback in this draft. There is no doubt he is a talented pocket passer.

At 6-3, 231 pounds Haskins has nice (not ideal) size and will be able to handle NFL defenses. He had an outstanding 2018 for the Buckeyes throwing for 4,831 yards with 50 touchdown passes against only eight interceptions. Those numbers led to Haskins selection as the Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year, and a third-place finish in the Heisman voting.

Rashan Gary is a beast of a man, he is 6-4 and weighs 277 pounds. His size comes with good agility and speed. Gary clocked a 4.58, 40-yard dash at the combine (almost a half-second faster than Haskins 5.04). A two time All-Big10 selection, he has nine-and-a-half sacks along with 19 tackles for loss the past two seasons.

It’s quite possible neither player will be available with the sixth pick. Should that happen, defensive end Montez Sweat from Mississippi State could fall to the Giants. For him to fall that far, quite a few trades would happen ahead of their pick. It’s hard to see the Giants drafting an offensive tackle at 6, so Taylor is unlikely.

Others receiving votes: QB Drew Lock – Missouri, DT Quinnen Williams – Alabama, LB Josh Allen – Kentucky, LB Devin White – LSU.
