Round Three, Pick 29: Isaiah  Prince, OT, Ohio State

We go back to the well in Columbus Ohio for the third selection of the 2019 draft. I thought about going with a wide receiver here, but it still felt more appropriate to use more draft capital on the offensive line here.

The team went so long without doing it, getting two picks in by the end of day two seemed like the smart thing to do.

Where the Jets sit right now seems very similar to where they were prior to the 2006 season. The offensive line was, frankly, very bad. It needed anchors and they selected Nick Mangold and D’Brickashaw Ferguson.

Earlier in the round we took Bradbury, now, it’s Isaiah Prince. He is an athletic player. A 5.09 forty yard dash is quick for an offensive lineman. Prince is a big guy, at 6-6 and with 35.5 inch arms. He has to work on his bend, therefore pad level, but that size can be a factor if he figures that out.

Prince plays on the right side, a spot currently held by Brandon Shell. Prince could be an upgrade to Shell. They could teach him and he could become a left tackle. Or he could become a depth player. The one bad scenario is that he doesn’t make it.

Three out of four choices are a positive. Prince has enough skill that the risk is worth the potential reward.
