Shortstop: Grade A-

This is a position the Mets, knock on wood, might not have to ever worry about for a long time. Amed Rosario has not even begun to tap his potential yet and as he prepares to head into his second full-time season. I think he is going to be in for a big season.

The Depth Chart for this position is quite simple:

  1. Amed Rosario
  2. Jed Lowrie

That is it. The Mets are all-in on Rosario being their shortstop, as they should be. Then their option is always there for Lowrie to come in a play when he is healthy and if there is a need for third base elsewhere.

Amed Rosario batted .256 last season, which was not that bad on the Mets but ranked 4th in the NL in Triples and seventh in stolen bases. His glove could probably use some work for he ranked high in errors last year.

But, what is encouraging is that the Mets are confident in him. If Amed can come through and have a big season, the Mets will be even better than anyone projected. Rosario is one of few players on this roster that could make a huge impact for the Mets this season.

Overall, I like that the Mets aren’t messing around here. They are giving the green light to Rosario. They do not need much depth behind him and he is ready to go. I love the simplicity of it, thus the grade.
