Starting Pitching: Grade A+

First off, this really is a slide that should be two slides for starting pitching and relief pitching are technically different on the depth chart, however, these slides have a minimum word count and I didn’t want to blab on and on about the starting pitching. This grade is by fat the most obvious grade.

Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Zack Wheeler, are you kidding me? That is a top-notch trio. Then there is Steven Matz who has started a World Series game, then Jason Vargas who once was the AL Wins leader. They don’t have a lot of depth but I’m not getting into that again, that plan seems to be fine too.

It is listed as such:

  6. Corey Oswalt

That is truly incredible.

Bullpen: Grade B+

Up next is the bullpen. The most improved position from last year to this one. That is almost entirely in large part to the Edwin Diaz trade and then re-signing of Jeurys Familia. The Mets spent money and gave up real prospects to improve their bullpen and this is what they came up with:

So overall, yes the bullpen got better and there are some new arms in there. However, last year’s bullpen ended the season at like a “D” grade so they will have to actually prove it on the field in order to get that “A” however, they won the offseason in theory because of how much they improved their bullpen.

Overall, I would give the Mets depth chart a B-. That isn’t the average of all my grades or anything but I think when including Mickey Callaway and the Mets new hitting coach, Chili Davis, who has almost never missed the playoffs in his career, there is no reason to think the Mets can’t turn their solid roster on paper to one of the best to actually take the field come Opening Day.
