More from Empire Writes Back

I have been ringing the bell for this guy for weeks now. It’s time for the Combine, so it’s time to ring it again.

We have spent more than enough time discussing the fact that the Jets offensive line was bad in 2018.

They couldn’t run the ball with any consistency and Sam Darnold wasn’t safe in the pocket. Otherwise they were fantastic.

The off-season that they have to begin to fix the offensive line is here. They have to protect the investment and they can’t wait any longer.

Could they bring in a guy like Matt Paradis? Sure. The Jets are going to be working hard on this guy, and they might land him.

However, they are not going to build this line for the long haul through free agency. They are going to do it through the draft, like when they drafted two guys named Nick Mangold and D’Brickashaw Ferguson.

It will be very interesting to see how Williams tests on Friday. How does he look in the bench press? Is he strong? Are his arms long enough to get the first hit on opposing defenders, or will they be able to get up on him quickly?

Watch his feet. Look at his kick slide. Is he smooth or does he stumble? Does he have a future as a left tackle in this league, or at least as a guard? The help is needed in both spots.

Also, is he good enough to pick at three, or must they trade back? To me, too much is put on the value. If he is good enough, go ahead and take him at three. You never know what could happen if you trade back.

Williams is a guy that will be interesting to watch.
