Round Three, Pick Four: JJ  Arcega-Whiteside, WR, Stanford

Protect the investment. That involves two things. The first is to keep Sam Darnold safe, which we worked on in the last room. The second is to give him as many toys as possible to play with. This is where we give Darnold a new toy.

A quarterback can never have too many toys.

The nucleus of the attack is obviously Quincy Enunwa, Robby Anderson and Christopher Herndon. But they need more. The Jets have to have more weapons, more playmakers to help this offense take the next step.

JJ Arcega-Whiteside is a player that has made steady strides throughout his college career. As a junior he posted nine touchdowns and 781 yards on 48 receptions. He topped that with a breakout senior season with 63 receptions, 1,059 yards and 14 touchdowns.

At 6-3, 225 pounds, he stands at a size that will render him with every chance in the world to be effective in the NFL, especially in the red zone.

According to the Draft Network, his Arcega-Whiteside’s best trait is his ability to make a catch in traffic and his worst is his speed. They call his body control “elite” and his ball skills some of the best in the draft class.

Don’t be alarmed by slow top-end speed. You know who else tested as slow with regards to speed? Jerry Rice, who ran a 4.59 at the Combine. That’s far from elite, but Rice? I’d say he was pretty elite.

Sam will like him. He will really like him.
