Second Round: Isaiah  Buggs, DE, Alabama

Here you may find it interesting to see back to back choices from Alabama, so let’s get right into it.

After the first round, the big names in the pass rush were gone. Everybody knows that the Jets need to up the pressure off of the edge. They have to figure out a way to get to the quarterback on a consistent basis.

Isaiah Buggs is not a name being talked about much, but he made strides in the pass rush during his senior year. Buggs jumped from 1.5 sacks in his junior year to a whopping 9.5 sacks in his senior year.

Buggs also played well in both of his bowl game appearances. Against Georgia in January of 2018, he posted five tackles and one sack in the victory. This past January against Clemson, he posted six tackles. The big stage does not intimidate Buggs.

When you look at the page, the fact that he only played in school for two years could cause some pause. That’s not a lot of experience. It’s clear from the tape he is raw, especially in his pass rush counters. He has some difficulty, at times, disengaging from blockers.

However there is clearly talent on that tape. When his motor is running, he jumps off as a relentless lineman that stops at nothing to find the football.

The motor comes with questions, but if they can motivate this guy, Isaiah Buggs could be a great addition to the defense.

Thanks, Miami!
