Round Three, Pick Four: Mitch  Hyatt, OT, Clemson

Here is a guy that could help the Jets going forward on the interior initially and have a chance on the outside in the future.

Mitch Hyatt is a senior from Clemson University so we know that he has played in his share of big games. The big stage of NYC would not be too big for young Mr. Hyatt.

Here are his measurables as of the preseason back in August of 2018:

"According to NFL teams’ preseason data provided by team sources, Hyatt checks in at 6-foot-5, 306 pounds. He is said to run the 40 in 5.10 seconds. His measurements include 34.25-inch arms, 10.5-inch hands, and a 82-inch wing span."

Hyatt had a solid season as a pass blocker. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed only 11 pressures on 398 snaps on pass plays. That is a very solid number for the young left tackle. We know the Jets need help on the offensive line.

They need to protect the investment, that cannot be stressed enough times. Protect the young quarterback, make him feel as comfortable as possible. It’s not a hard theory.

The Draft Network mentions a weakness in play strength as a negative to Hyatt’s game. That will expose him on the outside as a tackle, but why not give him a shot on the inside as a guard? The Jets certainly had difficulty with interior line play.
