New York Islanders Captain Anders Lee just played in his 400th career game, all with the Isles. Here is where his career stands.

The New York Islanders are proving what they could accomplish as a team, but Anders Lee just played in his 400th career game, which is a great personal accomplishment. While this season has not been jaw drooping in terms of numbers for Lee, he is still a solid hockey player.

The Islanders are in the midst of yet another regime change. While things are going well it’s still less than a year into the Lamoriello-Trotz era. They have done a lot, but have also barely even touched the surface of what they would like.

It is hard to transform a team overnight. Lou Lamoriello knew that so that is why he just added players that filled gaps and provided depth. All of that has worked wonders so far. However, a huge decision needs to be made about a player who neither guy brought in themselves, Anders Lee.

Lee is set to hit the market in July and become a free agent. I do not see any scenario where they trade their captain, but they also shouldn’t be distracting him by trying to negotiate a contract extension right now. It is not exactly a rock and a hard wall, but it is not the most pleasant dilemma to have.

However, Lee is an interesting player. While some can see Lee’s production as expendable, or some see it as the Isles could use the money to get someone better, it is not that simple. Lee is now the Isles’ leader. Not the de-facto leader, he has the official patch saying otherwise.

He has now played in 400 games, is one of the most savvy veterans on the team and has played in 80 games or more every year since 2015-2016.

However, that does not make the whatever decision the Isles will make about bringing him back any easier.

Here is my analysis on Anders Lee after 400 career games. Let’s see if this means his next 400 will also be with the Islanders. Here is Long Island has in Anders Lee.
