What Kyler Murray’s decision means for the New York Giants and New York Jets
By Kyle Morello
How Murray’s decision impacts the Giants.
Part of the Giants’ struggles in 2018 came from the Quarterback position.
And while Eli Manning has brought the team a lot of success, including two Super Bowl wins, it’s time for him to go.
The Giants have been rumored to be looking to draft a Quarterback with the 6th pick in this year’s draft as a way to replace Manning, but they won’t have many options to choose from this year.
The best Quarterback in this year’s class is by far Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins, who finished 3rd in the Heisman Trophy voting behind Murray and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.
Haskins had an amazing year in his only season as a starter for the Buckeyes, throwing for over 4,800 yards and 50 touchdowns.
While Haskins definitely has the build and credentials to be the top Quarterback off the board in April, he is no longer the most electrifying one available.
While Murray will have a ton of questions coming into the draft due to his size (he’s only 5’10”), his talent is undeniable. He has blazing speed and a very powerful arm, which is essentially the anti-Eli Manning.
This poses two questions for the Giants.
Number one, would they actually choose Murray over the more NFL-ready Haskins? Murray is a bigger risk but arguably has a brighter upside.
Number two, what if another team trades in front of them to grab one of both of the Quarterbacks they want?
The G-men are certainly going to have options heading into the draft, but they will have to go about it the right way and be assertive if they want to end up with the right pick.
