New York Giants: Saquon Barkley’s bet to win rookie of the year shouldn’t have been for a chain

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley won a bet with Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. The bet was bad and should have been for something other than a chain.

Earlier this week, New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley was named the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year. On Saturday, Barkley was named the Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Here’s what Barkley said about winning the award, per Michael Eisen of the Giants website:

“It’s crazy to win this award. Definitely an honor. “You dream about stuff like this when you’re a little kid. To actually accomplish this is amazing.”

He added:

"“Definitely want to shout out to Baker. He had a great year. Happy for him, proud of him.I knew it was going to be a really close race. I didn’t know who was going to win. It was up for grabs. … Baker had an unbelievable season. What he did for Cleveland was unbelievable. He deserved to win. I wish we could go co-(winners). For me to win this award is amazing.”"

This season, Barkley rushed for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also caught 91 passes for 721 yards and four touchdowns.

Also, Saquon had 2,028 yards from scrimmage, which is the third most by a rookie in NFL history, and his 91 catches were the most by a rookie running back in NFL history, according to Nick Shook of NFL.com.

Barkley deserves the awards he got, but he had some stiff competition from Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. Barkley and Mayfield decided to have some fun with the competition by placing a bet on who would win.

Barkley told Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com that the bet was for a chain and the loser had to get the winner a chain:

"“It’s for a chain. The loser’s got to get someone else a chain. We get to pick the chain and we get to have fun with it because obviously everyone’s talking about who’s going to win, and at the end of the day we’d love to see each other win, but we’d also love to see ourselves win too, but we made a little bet with it just to show how friendly we are that it’s bigger than just the award.’’"

That bet is probably one of the worst bets in the history of betting.

I mean it was for a piece of jewelry. Really? Come on Saquon and Baker you could have done better than that.

You should have made the loser pay the winner a lot of money, or have them pay for a vacation or something like that. The bet should have made the loser pay more for losing than the cost of a chain.

Saquon, the next time you make a bet, I hope it’s better than this one.
