However, there is no better way to enhance a candidate than references. It’s the same with all of us.
We all have our candidacy for jobs made greater by the references, both personal and professional.
Everybody knows the resume of Bill Parcells. It speaks for itself. Especially in New York, Parcells is football royalty.
So if he gives his endorsement, the world should listen. And that is exactly what he did for Kevin Mawae.
"“Kevin’s the best center I ever had, by far,” said Bill Parcells, “and he’s one of the best I’ve seen as well.”"
That’s high praise from a coach that was around as long as “the Tuna”. That wasn’t it, however. He went on:
"“I thought Kevin was a tremendous player,” Parcells said. “The only guy in his era that I think compared with him is Dermontti Dawson, and Dermontti Dawson is in the Hall of Fame. I thought those two guys were head and shoulders the best two."
Again, hi praise from the coach. Dawson was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection. Mawae made it once more than he did, so the comparison is a fair one.
It’s always hard to quantify the value of linemen. You can look at the accolades and look at the tape, but from there it is up to interpretation.
His candidacy is one of a Hall of Famer, that is hard to argue. Will he get the call? We will all find out together tonight during the broadcast.
But he has the support of his former head coach. Bill Parcells puts his players through the ringer, but when you have his support, Parcells is in your corner for life. Ask Curtis Martin.
Hopefully the legendary coach’s voice will be heard by the committee. Mawae deserves to take his rightful place in Canton, Ohio this summer.
