In 2017 the New York Jets had a kick returner that most everyone figured would be out of the league. Now he is one step away from winning a Super Bowl.

New York Jets fans, we sit two days away from Super Bowl LIII. We are on the outside looking in for another season, hoping we finally have the nucleus of our special run.

So what do we have to do with Sunday’s game?

Remember how bad the Jets special teams play was in 2017? It was abominable. There were mistakes every other play. They never made a big play. There were hardly any punt returns at all and never had a big return of any kind.

The special teams was far better as we all saw, with Andre Roberts and Jason Myers on the roster.

The kick returner that preceded Roberts was Jojo Natson. Everyone wanted him gone, and Roberts was better.

Well one team’s trash is another team’s treasure. Natson caught on with the Rams and now he is one step away from being a Super Bowl champion.

Being with a team that scored a lot of points, Natson didn’t run a ton of punts back. But he was in the top 20 with his 26 punt returns, averaging 10.8 yards per attempt.

That’s not a huge average, but he also topped 20 yards on four returns.

So? Natson has the ability, and did change the field position for Jared Goff and the offense on multiple occasions.

The ten yards per punt return is nearly nine yards more than he averaged for the Jets. It goes to show that a lot of it has to do with the coaching. Brant Boyer comes in and he brings the unit up, so much so that he has been asked to stay around with the new coach.

Natson could have a big impact in the game.

The Patriots sit as a 2.5 point favorite in the game. The game has all the chances of being close. With both of these two teams and their ability to score, the “eye” test would lend us to believe the game will be close.

One play can change the outcome. Those plays have been known to happen via special teams. One good punt return that sets up an easy score could be a game changer. A blocked punt can change the momentum of any game.

The Rams have a defense that will force punts in this one. A close game could be decided by one single punt return.

Imagine that. Jojo Natson could change this football game. A Jets reject could get some glory.

Hopefully our turn is coming.
