How this trade helps the Nets.

The best part about this deal for the Nets isn’t even necessarily adding Gordon. It’s the fact that they don’t have to compromise any of their main young core to get him.

Yes, the they would have to give up their own first round pick to get him, which isn’t ideal.

With that being said, they will still have the Nuggets first round pick this year, assuming the Nuggets don’t fall flat on their face because it is a top 12 protected pick.

It also shouldn’t matter too much they are giving up that first rounder due to the fact that Gordon himself is only 23 years old. He can not only help them win now, but in the future as well.

Just like, you know, all the players in the Nets young core I mentioned earlier in this article. And that didn’t even mention Caris LeVert, who is out with a serious injury right now but is arguably their best player when healthy.

His contract is a bit expensive, but it’s also backloaded. This means that his salary will decrease each year of his deal, going from around $21 million this season to about $16 million in year 4.

He’s also a good fit for this team schematically. Gordon is a stretch four, meaning he is a Power Forward who can play on the perimeter.

This is great for the Nets because he won’t get in Allen’s way on the block and can hit shots from the outside, while also still being able to play inside if needed due to his size.

They would also get back big man Jarell Martin in this deal. Martin hasn’t shown a whole lot in his time in Orlando, but is still young and has the potential to progress if he sees the floor.

It’s crazy to think of the Nets as buyers this season after years of being a bottom feeder in the NBA.

But the time has come to change that narrative. They can make a good team even better by trading for a young stud in Aaron Gordon.
