The Dallas Mavericks have acquired star forward Kristaps  Porzingis in a trade with the New York Knicks. The trade is stupid and the Knicks will regret it.

The New York Knicks shocked the NBA world on Thursday by trading star forward Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Knicks are sending Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Mavericks along with Porzingis.

In return the Knicks get Wesley Matthews, Dennis Smith Jr., and DeAndre Jordan. The deal could also include draft assets:

The trade comes after Porzingis and his agent met with the Knicks about the direction of the franchise. They expressed their frustration with the team’s losing ways, past dysfunction with the team, and uncertainty of creating a successful organization, per NBA.com.

After the meeting there was an impression that Porzingis wanted to be traded, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

Before this season the Knicks decided not to extend Porzingis’ rookie contract, hoping that he would be with them long-term.

Trading the Unicorn is the worst move that the Knicks have made in recent years. KP is the face of the franchise and might be their best player.

The Knicks have struggled without Porzingis, who has been out for almost a year due to an ACL injury.

Before the injury Porzingis was averaging a career-best 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks.

With a 10-40 record, the Knicks are in last place in the Eastern Conference. They also have the worst record in the NBA.

While the Knicks do have rookie sensations Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson, the Knicks will continue to struggle now that Porzingis has been traded.

Porzingis was supposed to help the Knicks become a winning organization. He could also help Knox and Robinson get better.

Porzingis could have helped bring a title to New York. Now the Knicks hope of getting a title in the next couple of years lies with Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson.

Trading Porzingis is the stupidest move the Knicks have made in recent years. Hiring Phil Jackson wasn’t as bad of a move as this is.

The Knicks won’t become a successful organization anytime soon now that Porzingis is gone and they will regret that they traded him.
