Why this trade makes sense for the Knicks.

First of all, the Knicks would be getting Anthony freakin’ Davis. That alone would be enough to get any Knicks fan ecstatic.

We’re talking about an all-time, generational talent who is entering the prime of his career. Pairing him with Kristaps Porzingis would be one of, if not the best front court in the NBA.

The Knicks would also be getting a young point guard in Frank Jackson, who has shown flashes potential in New Orleans and could replace Ntilikina as the young point guard of the future.

They would also be taking on Wesley Johnson and his expiring $6 million contract. This would be huge for the Knicks in terms of their plans for this offseason.

They would probably have to make an additional move, such as waiving Lance Thomas (owed $7.5 million in 2019-20) and/or trading Courtney Lee (owed $12.7 million), but the Knicks could still be in position to sign a major free agent this July.

With the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant hitting free agency after the season, signing one of them would be the final step in bringing the Knicks back to championship relevance.

The Knicks haven’t been to an NBA Finals since 1999. Acquiring Anthony Davis would be a major step in getting back there.

Don’t hesitate, Scott Perry and Steve Mills. Make the call.
