New York Knicks: A potential trade package that could land Anthony Davis
By Kyle Morello
Why this trade makes sense for the Pelicans.
While this trade would admittedly be better for the Pelicans if they did this after the season ended, it would still help them kick off their rebuild in a great way.
The main attraction for the Pelicans here is the Knicks 2019 unprotected first round pick.
Even if Davis was traded before the February 7th trade deadline, the Knicks are so bad that it would still result in a great pick near or at the top of the draft.
Having a pick that high in a talent-loaded draft class would land the Pelicans a player they can build around for the future.
The rest of the deal is pretty impressive too.
Kevin Knox is having an outstanding rookie season and has a lot of upside. Frank Ntilikina is still just 20 years old and is a great defender.
Damyean Dotson is also an underrated player who can provide scoring off the bench and is only 24 years old.
And even though Tim Hardaway Jr. is still on that outrageous contract the Knicks gave him in the 2017 offseason (2 years/$35 million remaining), he is an above average scorer who is still just 26 years old.
The other draft picks are the incentive for taking on Hardaway and even Dotson, as they would get two second round picks and another first round pick in 2021.
Overall, this would be an impressive crop of current and future talent to get rid of somebody who doesn’t plan on resigning with the Pelicans.
